The Black Hills of South Dakota and Mount Rushmore

February 11, 2006

The Black Hills of South Dakota are in the southwestern part of the state and extending into Wyoming. In the Black Hills you will find the famous western towns of Deadwood, Keystone and Crazy Horse. I was on my way to Vancouver, British Columbia and had a little extra time so I got off the interstate at US-16 and headed west to Mount Rushmore.

When I reached the park I didn't stay because they wanted $50 for me to park for a few minutes. Needless to say, on a cold day in February there weren't many people around so I pulled over on the side of the road and made a few snaps.

The day was overcast and the temperature was around 35 degrees.

The Presidential Memorial at Mount Rushmore is at an altitude of about 5,200 feet.
